The Working Parent: How You Can Work From Home As a New Parent

Raising a baby or toddler when you work remotely can feel like a challenge. Juggling your family with your work may feel like a losing battle if you do not organize yourself properly. LNJ Life Coaching shares a few pointers on how to be able to achieve that elusive work-life balance.

Plan Your Work-Life Balance

Residence Style notes that you need your own home office to have a healthy balance. While you may need to keep your young children close, the separation allows you to separate your personal life from your job. As a result, you may have an easier time destressing after the workday.

You may find yourself distracted, stressed, and unproductive if you have a cluttered office. Organize your workspace to have a positive flow. Eliminate clutter and anything that brings negative thoughts.

Find quiet time activities for your toddler. Quiet time activities do not require much supervision and involve no messes. Quiet time activities may include:

• Building blocks

• Painting with water

• Chalkboard tables

• Playdough games

If necessary, you can set your kids up in your office and allow them to play quiet games while you work. Then, you can keep an eye on them while focusing on productivity.

If you have other career goals, consider returning to school or earning a degree online. Going back to school not only helps you achieve your goals, but you may also serve as a role model to your kids. In addition, if you receive an online degree, you can work at your own pace and keep your day job while also caring for your kids. For example, you may return to school for an online teaching degree. When you complete the bachelor’s program, you submit your transcripts, finish a background check and take entrance exams and skill tests.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

You do not have to choose between keeping your kids safe and occupied and working from home. While some parents initially think they can spend more time with their babies or toddlers when working from home, they quickly realize they need some productive time away from the kids. While spending more time with your children is beneficial, you can still ask for help. Consider finding a babysitter to watch your kids at home. Search through your social circle before you seek a professional’s help.

Pre-school and daycare may also be an option for your little ones. Going to preschool or daycare can help your kids start their education. If you worry about the cost of childcare, there may be financial assistance options available to you.

Remember to Care for Yourself

Working remotely may reduce the stress of commuting to and from your job. However, raising kids and working can still increase your levels of stress. According to the experts at Cleveland Clinic, you can handle stress healthily through relaxation techniques. Spend time every day attempting to relax and meditate. Try to manage your time by keeping a set schedule or asking for help when necessary.

Don’t forget the importance of comfort, which is where stretchable, breathable clothes come in. This is especially true if you’re a new mom. You can find comfortable yet stylish clothing for new moms online. Look for versatile clothes that don’t sacrifice style, including comfy leggings, pajamas, and nursing bras.

Also, learn what triggers a stress reaction from you and how to calm down from it. When you eat healthy, exercise, and care for yourself, you tend to have a more healthy response to stress. Take time to care about yourself so you do not become overstressed. When stress comes on, practice deep breathing exercises to ground yourself.

When you care for yourself, you become a better parent and a better worker. Learn to balance your work and life schedule while asking for help when you need it. You do not have to carry all your burdens alone.
