7 Ways The Armor Of God Powerfully Protects Us From The Attacks Of The Enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18)

The Armor Of God is the protective suit every Christian must wear. In (Ephesians 6:10 NIV), Paul talked to us about the evil in the world and how putting on the Armor will enable us to take our stand against the devil’s schemes. The enemy is looking for our downfall; he tricked Adam and Eve and continues to deceive humanity presently. This is why God provided us with the Armor that we can wear to protect us from the enemy. In (Ephesians 6:12 NIV) we read that “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Therefore, we have to be always prepared and suited up in our spiritual Armor to overcome every scheme and trick of the enemy. 

Here is a breakdown of the Armor and what it entails, and how to put it on.

Belt Of Truth: First, in our battle, we must hold on fast to the truth. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. The word of God is the truth. Jesus said He would send us a helper who is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth. We are to buckle the belt of truth around our waist and stand firm. Without the truth in us, we are vulnerable to every human-made doctrine and deceitful scheming. 

Study the Word of God to seek the True Gospel for yourself, so you will not fall victim to the devil’s false doctrine. 

Breastplate Of Righteousness: We ought to seek God and His Righteousness at all times. Develop a purity of heart which translates into action; we must conform our heart and life to God’s Divine law. Being righteous means, you have a pure heart. You might make mistakes from time to time, but you immediately repent and make it right with God (Just like King David). We begin to live out what we believe in our hearts. (Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness) As our lives become conformed to the image of Christ, we begin to live more righteously, and our godly choices protect us. 

Some factors that can work against our breastplate of righteousness include unbelief, disobedience, unforgiveness, and worry.

Feet With Gospel Of Peace: The Gospel Of Peace is the message that Jesus gave to those who trust in Him (John 1:12 NIV) and (Romans 10:8-10 NIV). The Bible says in (2 Timothy 4:2 NIV) to preach the word, be ready in season and out of season. To defend ourselves against the enemy’s arrows, we must stand firm in the truth of God’s word. When the devil attacks with “if God loved you, this would not have happened,” we stand firm on God’s word and reply by saying, (Romans 8:28) “It is written: All things work together for good to them who love God and are called according to His purpose.” God also wants us to share our faith with other people, and as we do that, we are standing firm in our faith. 

Shield Of Faith: Take up the shield of faith to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (Hebrews 11:1 NIV) “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Satan’s attack causes us to doubt God. Faith prompts us to believe in God. Faith is the means by which we receive grace and come into the right relationship with God. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV) “We have been justified through faith and thereby belong to God and enjoy a relationship with Him. Faith is a protective shield that covers God’s children and keeps the devil out. 

Faith in God and a strong belief in God and His promises to us helps us to overcome the lies of the enemy. 

Helmet Of Salvation: We must learn to keep our helmet of Salvation on so that the enemies’ lies will not lodge in our minds. Through the helmet of Salvation, we can destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Cor 10:5 NIV). 

Things we can do to keep the helmet fastened are renewing our minds; we must wipe out all false doctrines, world views, and anything contrary to God’s word. We must allow God’s truth to wash away the lies, confusion from our minds continually. 

Reject doubt and stand firm on God’s word and His promises. With the helmet of Salvation, we can choose to believe what appears impossible.  

Sword Of The Spirit, Which Is The Word Of God: The sword is the Holy Scriptures. In (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV), we know that the Word Of God is from The Holy Spirit and written by men. The Word Of God is living and active and sharper than a double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12 NIV). The Word Of God is sharper than a double-edged sword because it is piercing or penetrating and reaches the heart, lays open the motives and feelings of those it touches. 

The purpose of The Sword Of The Spirit is that the Bible makes us strong and able to withstand the evil onslaughts of satan, our enemy. The Holy Spirit uses the power of the Word Of God to save souls (people) and then give them spiritual strength to mature in Christ and fight evil in this corrupt world. 

In a nut-shell the Armor of God is 

Seek the Gospel Of truth. Jesus’s message of truth. 

Live with a pure heart and believe in God, and live a righteous life.

Spread the Gospel of peace. Evangelize.

Have faith in God. Strong Believe In God.

Work on your Salvation daily. Renew your mind.

Stay in the word of God every day. Let it wash your soul and spirit. Let is work on your heart.
