Essential Steps To Take To Help You Overcome Insecurity
Insecurity: Having insecurity means you do not have confidence in yourself or something. It also means you have low self-esteem. God does not want His children to have insecurity – that spirit is not from Him. The Bible tells us that God created us in His image in Genesis 1:27, and also God said that everything He has created is good. “God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31 NIV
God said everything He created was good, and this includes you and me.
How Does Insecurity Set In
Some of us are raised in households where parents never acknowledged us or our wins in life. Some parents never talk to their children to build an emotional connection. That emotional void can cause insecurities and low self-esteem as you grow into adulthood.
Also, when people get into the wrong relationship, be it romantic or platonic, and that relationship is emotional, verbal, and physically abusive, that can lead to your self-esteem suffering. In addition, words spoken over your life from people in authority may affect your self-esteem and confidence and cause you to become insecure. When that trauma happens, it gives the enemy an advantage to come in and cause havoc in our lives.
Effects Of Insecurity
Insecurity may lead to seeking validation from the wrong places; it can also cause you to become someone you are not because you try to compensate. And unfortunately, sometimes, you can build up a persona that is not who God created you to be, and in turn, you can hurt people with the way you behave. This reason is why people may become bossy or narcissistic.
Insecurity may lead you to “follow the crowd” and do what everyone else is doing without you having a moral compass; in this case, it may be hard for you to say No, even if the situation makes you feel uncomfortable.
Most people will also try to fill the void in any way they can, even if that way may be damaging. Unfortunately, some of these ways include addictive things such as drugs, alcohol, promiscuous sex, shopping addiction, self-harm, abusing other people, and putting up unhealthy defense mechanisms. Also, when you try to fill the void the wrong way, you may cause further trauma.
Lastly, it may be difficult to overcome insecurity when you don’t have positive reinforcers around you.

To heal from insecurity, these are the steps you can take to start the healing process.
- Surrender all areas of your life to God through Jesus Christ. Then, God will begin to take you through the steps of healing.
- Be honest and speak about how you feel and where the traumatic experience that led you to become insecure may have happened. For example, was it a childhood experience, did it happen in your adult life? Talk about this experience and pinpoint the exact place and time this trauma occurred.
- Know that God sees you complete and without flaws, and He want to help you overcome your insecurity.
- Forgive the people who may have caused the traumatic experience.
- You have to work to renew your mindset and destroy the destructive mindset and mental stronghold the trauma has caused. Pray using 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
- Write down all the emotions you feel and pray them to God one by one. As you pray and communicate with God, He will communicate back to you and tell you what to do.
- As you pray, incorporate fasting. Fasting is very powerful, and it aligns your spirit to the Spirit of God and makes you sensitive so you can hear God. Study Isaiah 58:6-11 to know how God wants you to fast and the benefits of fasting the right way.
- Finally, I will encourage you to follow the leading of The Holy Spirit and be obedient to everything God will direct you to do. Indeed your healing is at hand.

Ephesians 1:4-6 NIV “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”
Psalm 139:13-14 NIV “For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.”
Philippians 4:8-9 NIV “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
