How To Have A Personal Relationship With God

The journey to Salvation begins with us believing and trusting in our Hearts that Jesus is Lord and also believing in the work He came to earth to do on the Cross for humanity.

Salvation Through Jesus Christ

The verses below tell us of our Salvation.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The gift of The Holy Spirit marks you as a Christian, and we only receive The Holy Spirit when we repent of our sins, turn back to God and Believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord.

Establishing A Relationship With God

Our relationship with God begins when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and at that moment, we also receive The Holy Spirit as our counselor. The Holy Spirit will teach us everything and bring to remembrance everything we have learned from The Bible. John 14:26

After we believe in Jesus Christ, we must also surrender our life to God so He can begin to reveal His Will and plans for our life. In my observation, there are two types of Christians; the ones who believe in Jesus but are living on their own Will, and the second type who are fully surrendered to God and therefore living their life according to the Will of God. This verse indicates how we should move in life. Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight’.

Daily Prayer

To get to know anyone, we have to be engaged with them in conversation to get to know them. The same applies to our relationship with God. For us to intimately know Him and How He operates, the only way to know that is to be engaged in daily prayer (conversations) with Him.

Our prayer should include offering petitions to God, asking Him questions, Worship, and thanksgiving.

I always say our conversation with God should be actively listening to Him. The only way we can go on our journey with God is to listen to the instructions and directions God will give to us. So how does God speak to us? He may talk to you through The Bible (Logos), through your spirit (Rhema), and dreams or visions.

Importance Of Listening And Obeying God

The most important part of our relationship with God is listening to Him and obeying Him. God said that obedience is better than sacrifice, and to have a fruitful relationship with Him, we must obey His every command in His Logos Word and Rhema Word.

God could successfully work with anyone in the Bible because they all listened to Him and followed His guidance – from Abraham, David, and The Prophets to Jesus Christ.

Importantly, when we believe in Jesus Christ, we have The Holy Spirit who guides us in all things, and it is vital to be sensitive to The Holy Spirit and move according to His guidance.

How Does God Answer Our Prayers?

It is important to note the various ways God may answer your prayer. God may speak to you through a word of exhortation, He may send you specific instructions to follow, or He may give you instructions for the future. You have to be discerning to know what God is saying at a particular moment.

Studying The Word Of God

Another important aspect of our relationship with God is getting to know Him through His Word. Studying the Word of God is vital for our spiritual growth as Christians. The Bible is life-changing with life’s instructions, laws, and principles. So if you are looking for answers about marriage, how to raise your children, what work to do, or your purpose in life, you can find all those answers in the Bible.

The Holy Spirit will teach you as you study the Word; the Word of God is used for teaching – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

You Will Receive Wisdom

There are two types of wisdom; the world’s wisdom and God’s wisdom. The kind of wisdom you want is God’s wisdom. God promises to give us wisdom beginning with us revering Him. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Fasting

Lastly, we have to be careful to incorporate fasting into our life. Fasting is a powerful activity that draws us closer to God and helps us grow spiritually.
