8 Powerful Things The Book Of Esther Teaches Us About God

Bible Lessons From The Book Of Esther

Esther is one of the bravest women in the Bible because of her heroism and faith in God. She was an orphan who was adopted and taken care of by her cousin Mordecai. This period was when the exile to Babylon was over – the Jews had returned to Jerusalem, but a few of the Jews remained in Persia, the empire that took over from Babylon.

In the book of Esther, we see how God works with our faith and how God’s favor separates us from the rest.

Let us jump into the lessons we can learn from the book of Esther.

God Is Working In Our Life – From the beginning of the book of Esther to the ending of the book, we can see how God worked everything out for the Jewish people. God is the Alpha and Omega, and He knows our lives from the beginning to the end. God knew that someone would rise to become an enemy of the Hebrew people, and this person was going to be influential and have the king’s ear – so what did God do? God moved His daughter Esther into the king’s palace to become a queen – such a high and important position in the land of Persia. God sent Esther to the palace because Esther will have to rise and save her Jewish people down the line. God’s hand is always in our life, only if we trust Him. He guides us and directs us in everything that we do.

God’s Favor On Your Life Will Take You Places – Esther had God’s favor on her life. In Esther chapter 2, we see how all the beautiful young women were summoned to the Harem for a new queen to be chosen because Queen Vashti, the reigning Queen, was driven out of the kingdom.

The Process To Select A Queen: Before a young woman’s turn came to go into King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics. And this is how she would go to the king (Esther 2:12-13 NIV).

When the turn came for Esther (the young woman Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail) to go to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king’s eunuch who was in charge of the harem, suggested. And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her. She was taken to King Xerxes in the royal residence in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti (Esther 2:15-17 NIV).

We pray that the favor of God will be on our lives today.

Prayer And Fasting Are Powerful – When Esther became queen, she got information from Mordecai of the plot that Haman planned to kill all the Jewish. Mordecai told Esther she had to talk to the king about what Haman had planned and to plead for mercy from the king. In the Palace, it was custom that nobody could go to the king without been summoned, not even the queen. But, Mordecai sends a message to Esther saying – (Esther 4:13-17 NIV) he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.

We see that Esther’s only way to go into the king’s presence will have to be by God’s Power – and she did this through praying and fasting. In Chapter 5, we read that after the three days of fasting, Esther went to the king, and the king was glad to see her instead of summoning to have her killed and said to her, ask me of anything you want up to the half of his kingdom. Wow!! This is God’s power.

If you have any problem and do not see a way out, I will advise you to pray and fast for that impossible situation and watch God move on your behalf.

What The Enemy Planned For Evil God Will Turn It To Good – The enemy may plant someone in your life to bring you down, but as a child of God – God has the ultimate power to turn every plan of the enemy into good or destroy the intent of the enemy.

The Jews had an enemy called Haman, who was given a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles in the palace. All the royals officials at the king’s gate knelt and paid honor to Haman, for the king had given this command for everyone to bow down to Haman. Everybody obeyed this command except Mordecai. Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel, which caused anger to rise within Haman – this led to him planning to annihilate all the Jews (Esther 3). A sequence of events happened, but God destroyed the plans of the enemy. The gallows that Haman built to kill Mordecai were the same gallows that he (Haman) was impaled with (Read Esther 7). This tells us that so long as we trust in God, God himself will fight our battles for us and bring the enemy’s plans to nothing.

God Requires Courage From Us – The word of God tells us not to be afraid of anything but to be courageous; that was God’s advice to Joshua. We can see how Esther displayed her braveness when she went to see the king after fasting, and also she did invite the king and Haman to a banquet where she told the king what Haman had planned – my friend, that takes courage. And, God wants all His children to have that kind of courage; God is happy and works best with us when we have courage

We Have To Depend On God For Everything – When you study the book of Esther, it is just amazing how God weaved and brought everything together for the good of the Jewish people. Esther and Mordecai trusted in God, and God moved powerfully through them. From Esther becoming queen to Mordecai uncovering the plot by Haman, it was all God. When you study Esther, you will see the twist and turns in how everything unfolded; it was mind-blowing. But at the end of it all, God delivered the Jews from annihilation.

Today depend on God for everything, even the smallest detail of your life. He is interested and wants to help you.

God Fights Our Battles – In Esther chapters 7, 8, and 9, we see how God orchestrated everything. First, Haman was impaled; second, there was a new command for Jews, which overrode the one that Haman had instated. The new order stated that when anyone tried to kill the Jews, they can defend themselves from an adversary. And through God’s mighty saving hands, many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them (Esther 8:17 NIV).

When you allow God to fight your battles, He will deliver you, and other people will attest to your deliverance and accept God and find salvation.

God Will Bring The Enemies Plan To Nothing – Esther had a calling on her life, and that calling included marrying a king and saving her people from their enemies. If we can sum up the book of Esther in a few words, we can say that God delivered the Jews from the hands of their enemy. God sent deliverance and worked through two people Esther and Mordecai. This summary tells us that the enemy may plan evil against you, but God will never allow it to come to fruition.
