Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive and compulsive behavior happens when a person obsesses over a particular thing or exhibits a compulsive behavior about something (usually with an unhealthy fear at the root of the behavior). 

This disorder may typically happen when a person out of fear believes something terrible may happen to them or the people close to them when they don’t keep certain rituals. So to maintain safety, they may be compelled to keep specific actions obsessively. 

For example, continually washing their hands or compulsively keeping a specific ritual/activity. 

This disorder may also highlight superstitious behavior, which may worsen OCD. 

OCD starts with trauma, and then fear sets in, and Fear causes specific thoughts to become strongholds, manifesting in behavior and attitude. 

To overcome OCD, we must identify the trauma, the unhealthy Fear it created, and the thoughts influencing the behavior and ask if what we are thinking is true – that is the first step to overcoming OCD behavior. 

The Lord wants us to have a sound mind of peace and joy. 

Praying and meditating on these Bible verses will help a person overcome Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Do not be anxious: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Overcome the unhealthy fear: For God has not given us the spirit of Fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

Come into the knowledge of what is causing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John‬ ‭8‬:‭32‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ: You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Renew your mind and transform your life: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Overcome your mental stronghold that’s dictating your life: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imagination, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 KJV 

Think about things that are true: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬
